Passing the torch... A new chapter for The Dance Centre

passingthetorch

This year marks The Dance Centre’s 21st season, and I am excited to announce a new chapter for The Dance Centre.

As my boys, Nolan and Nate are getting older, I have decided it will be best to pass the torch in order to spend more time with my family.

I will be stepping down as the owner and director of The Dance Centre and passing that role on to Naomi Davis. I have known Naomi for many years. She is a former student of The Dance Centre, and a beautiful and talented person and dancer. With her, I know you will be in great hands.

Let me introduce Naomi!

Naomi Davis started her dance career in 2003 when she found her passion and love for dance at The Dance Centre.  She had the unique opportunity to train under the directors Kelly Fischer and Lindsay Baker, former owners of The Dance Centre.  During high school, she was accepted into the Governor School for the Arts program in 2007.  After graduating from high school, Naomi continued her training at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond under the instruction of Marianne McAdam and Sara Downs.

Naomi graduated from EKU in the spring of 2013 with a BFA in Visual Arts and a Minor in Dance.  Throughout her time at EKU, Naomi was an active participant with EKU Dance Theatre program.  She was a former officer, a dancer for 5 years, and choreographer for 4.5 years for the group completing 14 pieces.  During her time in this program she received awards for “Most Outstanding Newcomer” her freshman year, “Most Outstanding Performer” her senior year, and “Best Choreography” for her piece “Energy (Never Dies)”.  For the past 10 years, Naomi has worked at Blue Grass Dance Center in Richmond, KY as a dance instructor, choreographer, and competition coach.  During her time at BGDC, she accumulated several achievements including “Best Choreography” for her solo piece “I See Fire” and her small group jazz “Heartbreaker”.

Her true passion is art in all its forms and feels extremely blessed to be able to share it with others.  Her intricate detail to choreography and awareness of space and music are present in her work.  Naomi could not be more thrilled to continue The Dance Centre legacy and to pass on the love of dance this special studio instilled in her.

From this point forward, you’ll be receiving communication from Ms. Naomi and you can feel free to send any questions or inquiries to naomi@dancecentreky.net.

So with that, I will take my final bow. I want each of you to know what a blessing it has been to get to dance, form friendships and relationships, to make dance fun, and to create unforgettable memories while serving you at The Dance Centre for the last fourteen years.

From the bottom of my heart, I love you!

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!)

Ms. Lindsay
