Passing the torch... A new chapter for The Dance Centre

passingthetorch

This year marks The Dance Centre’s 21st season, and I am excited to announce a new chapter for The Dance Centre.

As my boys, Nolan and Nate are getting older, I have decided it will be best to pass the torch in order to spend more time with my family.

I will be stepping down as the owner and director of The Dance Centre and passing that role on to Naomi Davis. I have known Naomi for many years. She is a former student of The Dance Centre, and a beautiful and talented person and dancer. With her, I know you will be in great hands.

Let me introduce Naomi!

naomi.JPG

Naomi Davis started her dance career in 2003 when she found her passion and love for dance at The Dance Centre.  She had the unique opportunity to train under the directors Kelly Fischer and Lindsay Baker, former owners of The Dance Centre.  During high school, she was accepted into the Governor School for the Arts program in 2007.  After graduating from high school, Naomi continued her training at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond under the instruction of Marianne McAdam and Sara Downs.

Naomi graduated from EKU in the spring of 2013 with a BFA in Visual Arts and a Minor in Dance.  Throughout her time at EKU, Naomi was an active participant with EKU Dance Theatre program.  She was a former officer, a dancer for 5 years, and choreographer for 4.5 years for the group completing 14 pieces.  During her time in this program she received awards for “Most Outstanding Newcomer” her freshman year, “Most Outstanding Performer” her senior year, and “Best Choreography” for her piece “Energy (Never Dies)”.  For the past 10 years, Naomi has worked at Blue Grass Dance Center in Richmond, KY as a dance instructor, choreographer, and competition coach.  During her time at BGDC, she accumulated several achievements including “Best Choreography” for her solo piece “I See Fire” and her small group jazz “Heartbreaker”.

Her true passion is art in all its forms and feels extremely blessed to be able to share it with others.  Her intricate detail to choreography and awareness of space and music are present in her work.  Naomi could not be more thrilled to continue The Dance Centre legacy and to pass on the love of dance this special studio instilled in her.

From this point forward, you’ll be receiving communication from Ms. Naomi and you can feel free to send any questions or inquiries to naomi@dancecentreky.net.

So with that, I will take my final bow. I want each of you to know what a blessing it has been to get to dance, form friendships and relationships, to make dance fun, and to create unforgettable memories while serving you at The Dance Centre for the last fourteen years.

From the bottom of my heart, I love you!

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!)

Ms. Lindsay

TDC News: June Edition

design - 2020-06-04T205941.728.png

Happy June!

While I know we didn’t usher in June with the usual excitement of our on stage Recital, I want to say a big thank you to everyone that participated in our Turning Lemons into Lemonade Virtual Recital. I am currently working on editing our Virtual Recital videos to get them out to you as soon as I can.

In the meantime, I have put together a Digital Scrapbook of our year together. Looking back on this past year the sweet moments brought tears to my eyes. I can say without a doubt, Season 20 of The Dance Centre was sweet indeed.

I hope you enjoy. And as always, thank you for being such a special part of #teamdancecentre.

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!),

Ms. Lindsay

Virtual Recital Information, Tips, and Tricks

Lemons into Lemonade Logo (4).png

Virtual Recital Package/Recital Costume Information

•Your Virtual Recital package will include a Recital T-shirt, a digital download of Virtual Recital, and a physical Virtual Recital DVD that will be mailed to you this Summer.

•The Virtual Recital Package will be $50 ($22 for the t-shirt and $28 for the production of Virtual Recital+your physical DVD).

•We have been able to work with our costume vendor and will be able to issue refunds for your costumes.

•For your convenience, we will simply subtract your Virtual Recital Package from your Recital Costume payment, meaning no extra cost for you.

•We expect to begin processing Recital Costume Refunds that will include payments for pre-paid tights and preordered t-shirts the week of May 18.  We have a lot of refunds to process, so we appreciate your patience.

T-Shirts

•All t-shirts will be available for pick up on May 26, 27, and 28 at The Dance Centre.

•The system for picking up t-shirts will be: Call The Dance Centre at (606) 620-7507 when you arrive, let me know your name and I’ll bring your shirt out to your car.

Filming Deadline

•Film your dancer performing over our regularly scheduled Recital Weekend, May 29, 30, and 31!

•All video submissions should be turned in to me by Monday, June 1 at 3 p.m.

Filming Tips

•In order to make a virtual recital work we need your help with filming your child.

•Do your best to find a blank, open wall or backdrop to film your dancer in front of.

•Film your dancer in the landscape orientation (sideways, not up and down).

•Film your dancer’s entire body.

•Play with the height of your camera and the angle to make sure they fit fully in the frame. If you are having trouble getting your dancer’s entire body, we suggest lowering your camera height.

•Your dancer should stay in the frame as they dance. Please stay stationary and do not pan or follow your dancer around with the camera. (Propping your phone up with something like a water bottle or using a tri-pod is a great way to make sure your camera stays stable and your video is not shaky.

•You can find edited Recital Music via the Recital Music Link

•Your dancer may feel most comfortable dancing with their teacher…and that’s OK!  Set up your laptop or another device playing your child’s recital dance (found in the Recital Dances Link), and film them dancing with your phone. (Just make sure to only film your dancer).

Curtain Call

•Curtain Call is one of my favorite parts of Recital…so I want us to have a Virtual Curtain Call as well!

•Please film your dancer smiling, waving, and showing off their best curtsy or bow, and send that to me as well. This clip only needs to be 5-10 seconds long.

Video Submissions

•You are welcome to email video submissions to lindsay@dancecentreky,net however most videos may be too large.

•If your video is too large, please share your videos with me on Google Drive.  Upload your videos to Google Drive and then share them to lindsay@dancecentreky.net.

•Please film each dance your dancer is in separately and submit a separate video file for each dance.

When to expect the Virtual Recital Digital Download?

•I will begin the production process as soon as possible on June 1.  I hope to have the Virtual Recital Digital Download to you by July 1, with physical DVDs shipping out later in July.

Questions

•I know this is a lot to process, and this is very different from any Recital we have ever produced, so it is okay to have questions.

View our latest Virtual Recital Zoom Q and A Recording here.

•Please, also feel free to email me at lindsay@dancecentreky.net with any questions you may have.

I couldn’t be more proud of our students this year, and I am thrilled to have the chance to celebrate them and their hard work both this year, and throughout the many years some of our dancers have been with us at The Dance Centre.

To all of our students, from the bottom of my heart, I give you the biggest round of applause.

Ms. Lindsay

Virtual Class Recordings

design (1).png

Virtual classes have been a great resource for us as we are trying to aid in public health initiatives due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We have been having a great time learning and growing together during this time. Life has handed us lemons… and we have decided to keep dancing and flipping anyway!

We have recorded (and will continue to record) each evening of classes that we host online. I have organized these links into a Google File and you will find that link below. If you have missed your online classes live or if you just want to take class again, just find your recording. One bonus of Virtual classes, is you can view them as often as you like!

With this link, you can also access Bonus On Demand Classes and Recital Choreography…enjoy!

I will update this link often so you can always access the classes you need.

Happy Dancing (And Happy Flipping),

Ms. Lindsay
