At The Dance Centre, we love to give back!  This year during the Holiday Season we will be performing our Holidazzle show for the Williamsburg Nursing Home on Wednesday, December 18 at 5:30 p.m. We will meet at Williamsburg Nursing Home at 5:15 to be ready to perform at 5:30. All costumes, hair, and make-up should be appropriate for the performance.

The Nursing Home requests that we keep the hallways organized and clear, so each group will have a designated spot in the hall to wait before their turn to perform. Parents each group are welcome to come in to the Dining Hall to watch their dancer perform. Feel free to head out after your dancer has finished performing.

I love that we will be able to do this for the residents of the Williamsburg Nursing Home, and I just know it will brighten their Holidays!

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!),

Holidazzle 2019 and the Williamsburg Christmas Parade

As we are heading further into November, I thought it was the perfect time to do a post about Holidazzle 2019 and the Williamsburg Christmas Parade.  Keep reading for all the details!

First up...Holidazzle 2019!

T-shirt Proof.JPG

This years’ Holidazzle production will be held at the University of the Cumberlands’ Gatliff Chapel on Saturday, December 14 at 3:00 p.m.  Dress rehearsal will be on Friday, December 13.  Dress Rehearsal Schedules and Holidazzle costmes will all be given out in class this week!  We are so happy with all of this years' costumes, and can't wait to see everyone on stage!

25550647_10156066228614791_8307891459429041751_n.jpg

Tights:  We have a Holidazzle tights order form in the lobby and will be taking orders for tights through November 15.  Dancers in Toddlers in Tutus, Creative Ballet, CreativeCombo, and KinderCombo will need Ballet Pink tights.  Dancers in Levels II-!V will need Tan/Nude tights.  Please make sure you purchase actual dance tights for your performance tights.  Panty hose or tights from the children's section of chain stores are not the right color and will stand out on the stage.  They also have a line at thigh that is very noticeable and distracting.

Holidazzle T-shirts:  You have seen Holidazzle T-Shirt order forms in the lobby for the last few weeks, but I wanted to give you a little more information about those.  Holidazzle T-Shirts will be the design you see below.  These make a wonderful keepsake and are festive to wear during the Christmas and Winter season.  We will be taking orders for Holidazzle T-shirts through November 15.  Parents and other friends and family are welcome to order shirts, too.  We will not order extra shirts, so please make sure you put your order in if you think you might want one!

Next up...Williamsburg Christmas Parade…

15420931_10154876627614791_5420937581739594744_n.jpg

The Williamsburg Christmas Parade is Dec. 14, after Holidazzle.  It will start at Williamsburg City School, go straight down Main Street, and end at Bill Woods Park. The parade will start at 6.  We will meet behind Main Street Baptist Church 30 minutes before the parade starts.  Jazz classes will be rehearsing and performing a Pom routine.  Mike Meadors is very generously creating a float for smaller dancers and those not in Jazz that may still want to be in the Christmas Parade.  Any participants wishing to ride on the float must have a parent or guardian accompany them, either on the float, or following behind.

Attire for parade:  Jeans, warm, comfortable shoes, TDC Hoodie, red parade beanie, and poms.  You may layer under these items to stay warm.  You may also wear gloves.  The poms and beanies will be supplied by The Dance Centre will be turned back in right after the parade is over.

TDC Hoodies:  We have TDC Hoodies available for you again this year and are currently taking orders for these in the lobby at The Dance Centre.  These Hoodies are black with a silver glitter "The Dance Centre" on the front.  This design is the exact same design we used last year, so if you have last year's you do not need to purchase one this year unless you need a different size, etc.  These Hoodies are available to all students and parents and are very comfortable to wear all winter long!  We will be taking orders for TDC Hoodies through November 14.

I hope this helps answer any questions you didn't know you had yet ;) about our upcoming Holiday performances this season.    I am very excited for a fun, Christmas-y day!  As always, please let me know if you have any other questions.

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!),

November: So much to be thankful for!

{A note from Ms. Lindsay}

November is a great time to stop and count your blessings.  Yes, it signals the start of the busy Holiday Season, but, let's consider that busy a blessing! :)  Starting next week, we will be placing some mason jar cut outs the lobby that we would love our students and parents to write things they are grateful for. We will use these to create a gratitude wall in the entry way to our studios this November.  I invite you and your little one to grab one and share with us what you are thankful for. We are looking forward to celebrating this season with you.

We are also looking forward to partnering with the University of the Cumberlands to collect canned goods for their annual Food Drive. We will be collecting food from Monday, November 4-Thursday, November 14. The student in each level that brings the most food will win a prize. I hope you will consider participating so we can help spread a little love around during this special season.

Things are gearing up for the Holidays at The Dance Centre, for sure.  We have received our Holidazzle costume shipment.  Yay!!!  We will be doing a Holidazzle costume try on week November 11-14. I will email you that Monday with a reminder and some extra information and helpful costume week tips.

With your costumes, you will also find our Holidazzle Info Packs.  These will contain our Holidazzle Dress Rehearsal Schedule, Holidazzle 101, information about the Williamsburg Christmas Parade, and the Williamsburg Nursing Home, another great performance opportunity that we have arranged for our dancers.  These Info Packs will contain lots of great information and I am excited to get them to you.

Finally, please take a moment to check the Holidazzle Cast Lists found in the lobby.  Make sure your child's name is spelled correctly, and is in the appropriate place on each list.  I really appreciate your help in making sure our T-shirts and Programs are correct!  I also wanted to remind you that we are now taking orders for Holidazzle Tights, Body Suits, T-shirts, and TDC Hoodies.  You can find the order forms for these in the lobby.  The deadline to order is Thursday, November 14.

Keep reading for more November fun + our December Calendar!

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!),
Ms. Lindsay

P.S. We will be open and having all classes on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5.

TDC News: October Edition

design (14).png

{A note from Ms. Lindsay}

Hello, and Happy October!  October sure is a big month here at TDC.  I would say it is one of our busiest months of planning at The Dance Centre.  We are simultaneously working on both Holidazzle and Recital, and scheduling fun October activities for our families at TDC (like Open House Week and Halloween Costume Classes!).

If you know me, you know I love to plan.   I  like to get information out to you early so you can be in the know and plan, too.  Here is a list of important information and dates:

  • Join us next week, October 7-10 for Fall Open House! You are invited to sit in on your child’s classes this week. View more information about Fall Open House here.

  • We will be closed the following week, October 14-18 for Fall Holidazzle Costume balances are due by Tuesday, October 15.

  • After Fall Break, you will find order forms for Holidazzle T-Shirts, Black and Silver TDC Hoodies, and Holidazzle Tights and Bodysuits in the lobby. We will be taking orders for these items through November 21.

  • We will be hosting Halloween Costume Dress Up Classes on Thursday, October 24, and Monday, October 28, and Tuesday, October 29. This way all of our classes have a chance to dress up before Halloween. This is one our favorite weeks! Your child can wear their Dance and Gymnastics friendly costumes this week (we will still be twirling and flipping, so make sure your child can move in their costume).

  • We will be closed on Thursday, October 31 for Halloween so your little one can enjoy all the Trick-or-Treating fun!

  • On Friday, November 1 we will send out November Statements that will include with Recital 2020 information! Yay! You can expect paper notes with the same information to come out the week of November 4-7.

Keep reading below for more October fun, our November Calendar, and more!  And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let me know!

Fall Open House 2019

design - 2019-09-16T184124.988.png

It's finally Fall! Dance and Gymnastics classes have been in full swing at The Dance Centre for a while now. Parents are always welcome to watch class through our viewing windows, and we have been inviting parents in to watch snippets of dances and routines at the end of class, but each Fall, we also like to formally invite parents in to watch their child's classes in their entirety. Our Fall Open House is just the chance for you to do that!

70475294_10157654852364791_4148571875426959360_n.jpg

Here are a few things to keep in mind as we approach our Fall Open House Week:

  • Your child wants to show you what they have been learning in class. Please be attentive and let them see you are there to support them.

  • Please keep in mind some children may be distracted or shy with new people in class. This is totally normal and we see it every year during Open House Week. Introducing new people into their classes is hard sometimes. If your child feels this way, or acts differently in class, please be patient. This is totally normal.

  • If your child is older, and is in multiple classes, we understand this can be a big time commitment for coming in to watch for an entire evening. Talk to your child and ask them what class they would like for you to watch the most. That way you'll be there to support your child and watch them shine!

IMG_8440.JPG

Fall Open House is such a special time to come in and see your child's progress in their Dance and Gymnastics Classes.  We are so proud of what our students have accomplished so far this year, and we can't wait to share this week with you!  As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!),

Friend Week 2019

17990732_10155308810494791_2006094038738135342_n.jpg

Friend Week is September 23rd-26th!

At The Dance Centre, we know that dance and gymnastics friends make the best friends!

D6005EC1-FFFD-4562-AB92-AF07983BFA25.JPG

I actually met one of my very best friends through The Dance Centre about 14 years ago.  When I purchased The Dance Centre in 2006 I was in need of a Tap teacher, was given the name of our current teacher, Ms. Jenine... and the rest is history!  We totally hit it off, Jenine is an amazing Tap teacher (she's been with me since I started), and one of my dearest friends!  I am so thankful my dance bestie!

I have so many more special relationships that have happened in my life through The Dance Centre.  Staff members, parents, students...more people than I could ever list.  Dancing makes me happy, and thinking about my dance friends does too!  To celebrate those special relationships, we will be hosting a Friend Week September 23rd-26th at The Dance Centre.  We will have special activities to help us celebrate our friendships AND we invite all current students to share their love for Dance and Gymnastics during this week by bringing a friend to join them for any of their Dance or Gymnastics classes, completely free!

Use the hashtag: #TDCFriendWeek2019 to share your fun Friend Week photos!

To invite your friends to Friend Week, grab an invitation in the Lobby at TDC or print one here, and invite your besties!  To make inviting your friends even easier, we've created a Facebook Event for you to share, so hop over and check that out, too.

I can't wait to celebrate Bring A Friend to Class Week with both old friends and new!

Happy Dancing! (And Flipping!),

Sweet September

A note from Ms. Lindsay}

Back to school season is officially over, and now we can welcome in September!  I can't wait for it to cool off, how about you?!

Classes here at The Dance Centre are going great!  I always love classes in the Fall, where we can really dig in to technique and terminology...I'm a bit of a Ballet nerd! ;)  Our students have been working very hard and I am so proud of the progress we are making! Our Level IV and V Ballet classes just had the wonderful opportunity to have an evening of Ballet and Pointe with Ayako Hasebe Lloyd from the Lexington Ballet. Ms. Ayako was very complimentary of our studio and our students, and I was so please at the great job our dancer did representing The Dance Centre.

It is super hard to believe, but September means we start planning our annual Christmas show, Holidazzle!  Next week in class, we will be sending home notes with Holidazzle information and sharing what songs and costumes we plan on using.  This years' show is shaping up to be super fun and I am really excited to share everything with you!

25591904_10156065585319791_2698615062306470027_n.jpg

Another fun event that we will be hosting this month is Friend Week!  This is something so close to my heart!  The week of September 24-27 we will be celebrating the friendships that we have made through Dance and Gymnastics classes at The Dance Centre.  We also invite our students to reach farther than that and share their love of Dance and Gymnastics with others by inviting a friend to come to class with them!  Stay tuned for more details!  They will be coming to you soon!

In other exciting news, we have had some requests for some help in getting gently used shoes and dancewear into new hands, so I’ve decided to create a TDC Buy-Sell-Trade Group on Facebook. If you have any interest in joining that new group, just follow the link below!

Keep reading below for more September fun, our October Calendar, and more! And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to let me know!

Welcoming Guest Teacher, Ayako Hasebe Lloyd to Ballet IV and V Next Week

69349520_2286227958172461_8466880901341511680_n.jpg

I have exciting news!  Ayako Lloyd from the Lexington Ballet will be joining us next week as guest teacher.  Here is a little more about Ayako.

68526135_678722889311091_8265436438259040256_n.jpg

Ayako Hasebe Lloyd is from Japan, and began her training at Van Metre School of Dance in Tennessee and continued at Koshizuka Natsuko Ballet School in Japan. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance Performance from Butler University. Ayako has attended the Vaganova Seminar in St. Petersburg, Russia, where she studied with renowned professors from Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory. She has also trained with Orlando Ballet School and Parsons Dance Company. Ayako danced professionally with The Lexington Ballet Company for 10 years. Some of her repertoire includes the title role of Cinderella, The Dying Swan, Myrtha in Giselle, Caterpillar in Alice in Wonderland, Nurse in Romeo and Juliet, Mazurka variation from Les Sylphides, Prayer in Coppélia, Dew Drop Fairy, Arabian, Spanish soloist, Chinese soloist, and Marzipan in The Nutcracker, and various roles created by Luis Dominguez. Ayako is passionate about passing on the dance art form to the next generation, and enjoys every moment of teaching. She is currently a faculty at The Lexington Ballet School and Town&Village School of Dance. She recently completed the American Ballet Theater National Training Curriculum(Pre-Primary to Level 3) in New York. She has been a guest teaching artist with Kentucky Governor’s School of Arts, The Lexington Theater Company, and surrounding schools in Kentucky.

In order to give our students the best experience and to make the most of our time with Ayako, we will be adjusting our schedule next week to allow for longer Ballet and Pointe classes.

I have included the special schedule for Monday, August 26 below:

4:45-5:15 Contemporary V

 5:15-6:15 Ballet IV 5:15-5:45 Tap V

5:45-6:15 Level V Old Fashioned Trading Days Practice

6:15-7:15 Ballet V 6:15-6:45 Tap IV

6:45-7:15 Hip Hop IV

7:15-8:00 Pointe

I know this experience with Ayako will inspire our students and enrich their experience with us here at The Dance Centre, and I am just thrilled that I was able to make this happen.

Happy Dancing!,
Ms. Lindsay
